Serve in the Pumpkin Patch

Many years ago Cypress UMC began selling pumpkins on the front lawn as a way to raise money for missions. Over the years the patch has grown and transformed into a community gathering place. Full of pumpkins for sale, activities, friendly faces, homemade breads & goodies, Cypress MC has become known as the “Pumpkin Church”. The patch proceeds support youth and children missions and ministries and help to send youth and children to summer camp. The patch has become a great way for our community to come together!

Have you signed up for your Pumpkin Patch shift? It opens this Saturday & WE NEED YOUR HELP!! We have many openings still needing friendly faces to help us greet visitors and assist with selling pumpkins. NEW to working in the Patch? Here are a few things you might be curious about. First, working in the patch is easy & the whole family is welcome to pitch in! Working a shift involves greeting visitors, ringing up pumpkin sales (we have made the process very easy). Shifts are on an average of 2-3 hours long and we schedule 2 adults at the sales table. Youth are scheduled to keep the patch tidy and answer questions. This is a wonderful outreach event every year that the community looks forward to. The patch will be open every day from 10 AM – 7 PM from Oct. 7 – 31. Call your friends and book your shift together and enjoy a nice time in the patch. Many people love to pick the same shift every week. Sign-up only takes a minute. See You in the Patch!

Our visitors LOVE the pumpkin bread that we sell every year in the patch! So much so that we can’t bake enough. If you would like to fill your home with the smell of fall & save on the calories join our baking team. Feel free to bake as little or as much as you like. Every loaf helps. Here is an easy recipe & mini loaves work great! Please mark if nuts are used. Bread can be brought to the church office Sunday – Thursday.

2022 United Methodist Women’s Award

Pam Davis, Leadership: Diana Clauder & Heide Heath, Charles Clauder, Suzanne Dale

The United Methodist Women is an organization of women whose purpose is to know God and to serve others through missions.

Each year the UMW takes nominations from the church congregation for those persons who have served our church and community in many different capacities.

Three recipients are being honored this year:

Suzanne Dale

• Worked with MYF in the past.
• Upon joining UMW she immediately accepted the position of Secretary
• Is the Sunday School President for the Inquirers class
• Went on a mission trip to Belize
• Makes bracelets to be sold to help support the Angel House Stained Glass Ministry
• Serves for Vacation Bible School
• Attends Bible Study at Community Bible Study
• Serves in the CUMC Pumpkin Patch
• Involved in the Local Education Group (LEG)
• Prepares food for the local school celebrations
• Shops and delivers school supplies to our partnered schools

Charles Clauder

• Has served in the Angel House Stained Ministry for over 10 years
• He is steadfast in leadership and dedication to making the Angel House a strong and vital part of helping others in our workshop, our church, our community and our world. He shows knowledge in maintaining our assets, extra hours of time go into maintaining the equipment, picking up supplies and building new merchandise for mission sales. He is consensus of working to produce greater avenues of outreach
• He has a heart to support the schools in our community through our gifts and their time
• He welcomes everyone

Pam Davis

• Has been involved with Chix with Stix since the beginning
• Manages delivery of hand knitted items created by Chix with Stix to various organizations that benefit babies & the homeless with baby hats, car seat blankets, knitted hats and blankets
• She makes sleeping mats for the homeless using plastic grocery sacks
• Chix with Stix made a visit to the Heights to deliver all of the homeless mats they created
• Sunday School & Disciple Bible Study leader
• Office Angel
• Other involvements are so numerous to mention
• Always available when needed

God has truly blessed us with these dedicated members of CUMC! You are amazing, thank you for all you do!

UM ARMY is an acronym which stands for United Methodist Reach-Out Mission by Youth. It is an opportunity for youth and adults to experience Christian growth through mission, worship and fellowship. Participants combine their strengths to provide free home repair for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners who are physically or financially unable to make needed repairs. This year we will be serving the community of Caldwell, Texas with participants from FUMC Alvin and FUMC Mineola.

May 31 – June 4 Grades 7-9

$210 / $120 if worked 5 pumpkin patch shifts

Galveston Urban Ministries Mission Trip is a junior high mission trip that takes us to the north side of Broadway in Galveston, TX. Our students do service projects in the morning, lead VBS and play with the community children in the afternoons, and then enjoy fun, fellowship and worship in the evenings.

The trip is for students in 7th-9th grades (as of Fall 2020). We need parents to attend GUM as chaperones. If you are interested please talk to Chris McCollum.
